Regarding Laptop Specs for ROS and Gazebo

Hi, I am new to ROS and I have installed ubuntu with ROS melodic and using Gazebo for a humanoid robot, but the simulation is very slow. What should I upgrade in my Laptop for faster and smoother simulations?

Laptop Specs:
Model: Dell G3 3579
Ubuntu installed in HDD (not SSD)
RAM: 8GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card with 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM

Yes, a humanoid robot is probably very complicated and heavy for Gazebo. If you want, you could send me the simulation package for us to test it in our platform.

As for the computer, you could probably do fine with 16GB RAM SSD

When stating the specs, you should mention the processor.

For this, you might need

  • a recent Core i7 processor, 8 cores. The higher and newer the better.
  • SSD instead of HDD. With an HDD, you won’t see much improvement even if you increase the RAM. But when you upgrade to SSD you’re set to fly!
  • You’ll also benefit from a RAM upgrade, but prioritize the switch to SSD.
