.dae files - What are they for?

What are .dae files in the meshes directory? How do you view them? and how do you interpret them?

These are files used to describe a 3D object in a portable way and stands for Digital Asset Exchange. They can be opened by several programs many proprietary like Adobe Photoshop, AutoCAD and Maya,. The most common open source program that you can use to open them is Blender. This will show you what the object looks like in 3D, modify it for use in your own project. It is also probably the easiest way to create a new 3D object for use in your projects.
