Cannot move Summit-XL with turtlebot_teleop

I created a package as the tutorial suggests, that launches the turtlebot_teleop_keyboard node, remapping the topic turtlebot_teleop_keyboard/cmd_vel to /summit_xl_control/cmd_vel. While, the topic remaps correctly, only blank messages are being published to it, even if I press the correct keys. This is what I get when echoing the topic.

linear:
x: 0.0
y: 0.0
z: 0.0
angular:
x: 0.0
y: 0.0
z: 0.0

even if the terminal in which I launched the node reads this:
currently: speed 0.2 turn 1
currently: speed 0.2 turn 1.1
currently: speed 0.2 turn 1.21
currently: speed 0.2 turn 1.331
currently: speed 0.2 turn 1.4641
currently: speed 0.2 turn 1.61051
currently: speed 0.2 turn 1.771561

I suspect there must be something wrong with either the CMakeLists.txt or package.xml files, probably the message_runtime, or message_generation dependencies. If I could get a bit of help to understand how these dependencies work, I would appreciate it.

This is my CMakeLists.txt

## * add a build_depend tag for "message_generation"

Hi, welcome to the community! Sorry for the delay.

I think you will have an issue because the turtlebot_teleop_keyboard is not the “generic” teleop. What you can do is first, check the exact name for your cmd_vel topic with:

rostopic list

Then, you can use the following command:

rosrun teleop_twist_keyboard teleop_twist_keyboard.py cmd_vel:=<your_cmd_vel_topic>

This is a teleop node that can work for any robot that uses cmd_vel, and the last part, cmd_vel:=<your_cmd_vel_topic> is where you are remapping the topic to fit whatever your robot is listening to. Make sure to replace it with the name of the topic you found earlier.
